This shoot took place on a stage, so all of our tungsten units were plugged in to the overhead grid and controlled with a dimmerboard. I can't remember the precise levels for each light, so I'll be doing a little bit of guessing in this post.
In this setup, the shot starts all the way zoomed in to characters eyes. The light above him is moving from left to right and back. And the camera slowly zooms out, the lighting changes from toppy overhead look to a more brightly lit scenery. The two shots below illustrate the change.
F-stop: f2.8 - 4
This shot involved several moving parts: the overhead light was a 2K open face shooting through unbleached muslin. It was rigged with safety chain to the grid, and a triple header + gobo arm combo - for the movement. The drawing below illustrates this part. The light was dimmed down to around 30% of full power.
Then the more welcoming look was created by another 2K open face shooting through 12x12 silk from camera-left side. It started at 0% and dimmed up to around 50%.
And finally the small eye-light (visible in the closeup shot) was created with a S-60 skypanel with chimera shooting straight on from very far away - just to create a dot in subject's eyes, but not illuminate the face. It was dimmed down to only around 20%.
For the shot below, we increased the level on the overhead 2K to around 40% and decreased the level of the 2K that was shooting through the 12x12 silk. to about 15%.
F-stop: f2.8 - 4
Below is the frontal view of this lighting setup
For this scene, we lit the background with two 2K open faces shooting through 1/4 grid diffusion and a window cut-out in a flat.
For subject's face, we used a Leko bounced into a 4x4 piece of bead board that was just standing on the floor leaning on a c-stand.
And for general fill, we used a skypanel through a 12x12 silk.
Finally, we added some negative fill on camera right side of the stage.
Mother and Daughter
Lastly, this setup was done with a 12x12 silk and 2K open faces shooting through it at 100%.
The warmer backlight was done with a Skypanel shooting right over the backdrop.
And the additional fill was created by the 26º Leko bouncing into the floor.
