TILT RIG SHOTS

To achieve the shot where the liquid in the glass "gravitates" to the side of the glass we built a rig that would tilt the camera, the bar surface, and the background together.

Initially, we planned to capture the background elements on the scout and print out large photos of them. However, during my testing before the shoot, it became clear that we could just use a monitor instead.

Test footage shot with a home-made version of the  rig

We captured the background plates out of focus on 75mm lens (the same lens we would later use to shoot the tilting shots). All the lighting had to be rigged to this rig in order to stay consistent for when it tilts. We also put colored shapes on the monitor to modify the reflections on the glass and the table.

The rig in action

We were able to use the monitor to light the glass and the table by putting up different colored shapes.
