All The gravity defying liquid shots were shot on a β"spin-roast rigβ. We captured plate shots of the backgrounds when we shot our scenes. Then we put those plate shots in a monitor that was placed behind the glass. I wanted to avoid green screen because we were shooting glass and liquids that would have reflected the green color and it would have been a nightmare for post to key out.
We had 3 fake bar surfaces - matching each of the bars we shot in. All the props had to be glued on to stay in place during the tilt. All the lighting had to be rigged on the same rig so it could spin together and not create any shifting light in the shot. I lit most of these shots with Astera tubes and LED dedo lights.
Having the monitor as the background allowed me to put color shapes just outside of frame to create different reflections in the glass - like a mini Volume stage.
